Photovoltaic Plant

We are extremely proud of this plant which allows us to grow great quality fruit with clean, renewable energy and zero C02 emissions.

How does it work ando how much energy does it produce?

To develop the plant we joined forces with Kraftwerk, a German company specializing in the installation of renewable energies and with Hydroscada, experts in hydrology.

The first steps were to collect data on radiation in the area; and to measure the actual electrical consumption of the farm based on the output of its water pumps.

With this data we planned and developed a photovoltaic panel park suited to provide the energy needed for this operation. Panels can generate, on this first stage, more than 300kW. When fully operational, the park will be capable of generating 1MW -the equivalent to the necessary energy for 600 households- and will allow us to reduce CO2 emissions by 389 tons.

Potential

Our photovoltaic park is the first experience of its kinds in Chile’s agriculture industry and is a positive model for the development of clean and renewable energy for the industry. With this plant we have proven that it is possible to use energies with zero C02 emission to produce fruit of the highest quality.

It is an innovative and replicable solution for other areas in the country and it contributes to the development of options for a country that seeks to diversify its energy sources and have cleaner energy in its grid.

Location

The plant is located in Hornitos farm, located near the town of the same name on Route C35, Km. 38, in Copiapo , Atacama Region; this farm is owned by the Agrícola Don Alfonso, owned by Los Terrones S.A.

Solar panels use a hectare of the farm’s total 289 hectares.
